The snowstorm that buried cars the other night, February 23, here at Bennington Rehabs parking lot was similar to a snowstorm I experienced when I was still living in my house in Pelham Manor, New York.

Act 60 is broken. It feels like we are stuck in the mud - the more we spin our wheels, the messier things get. Just look at all the Band-Aides that have been tacked on over the years - Act 68, Act 185, Act 130, Act 82 - the list goes on.

Getting struck by lightning is a serious matter. I know. When I lived in my one-story house in Manchester Village, years ago, the one thing that scared me (after mice) was thunderstorms.

About 3:30 a.m. a few weeks ago on a Wednesday morning, we were abruptly awakened by the vigorous ringing of the doorbell. Our neighbor met us at the door with "your barns on fire!"

Several times during his State of the Union Address President Obama mentioned that our country was engaged in two wars. I have no doubt that he believes that our military's engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan are full-out wars - with casualties resulting and resources being expended. The president's words and expression manifested his concern and it made me think of another president, Franklin D. Roosevelt.
